Yesterday I went out for a walk and happened to look in the dumpster. I found a clamp-lamp! This is nice for my workspace, and will be useful once I start doing craft shows as well:
I also found a big green tub. To give you an idea of the size of it, those are 16×20 canvases next to it. And of course I had to know if I would be able to fit inside and close the lid over top of myself. The answer is yes, very uncomfortably. It was much less fun than I’d hoped, as it seems my recent 28th birthday has turned me old and stiff. But think of the wonderful storage opportunities!
Not only was I playful and resourceful, but I was responsible as well. Behold the clean stove top:
Yes, yes, it is easier to clean than a regular stovetop. That is why I allowed the burned food residues to cake its surface unmolested for so long. As with all such things, if you wait too long, you pay in elbow grease. But you don’t want to see my oven. You want to see my lovely inspiring workspace…
(Look in the mirror- isn’t my eye creepy in this picture?)
Now you can feel better about the mess in your own home! Or if you have none, you can baffle at the sight of such disorder. I don’t mind; a little mess is a good sign of life.

I have a plate with paints on it just like that sitting on my kitchen table! LOL
OOOOH I love dumpster diving!! We live right by a rather affluent University and twice a year the students move out of their houses and dump all they own on the sidewalk… I have gotten several nice lamps, a microwave and the coolest table!
The sad thing though is I have turned my son onto the dumpster diving thing and he now regularly comes home with junk…
Ah, people after my own heart
It always amazes me when I get something wonderful for free. And what a great outlet for a kid’s sense of adventure! Just so long as his treasures don’t overflow out of his room to the rest of the house, right?
