When I’ve finished working on a painting, and find I still have quite a lot of paint left over on my palette, I use that leftover paint to set a background down on a new canvas. (Or wood panel, as in this case.) Here is a preliminary sketch on one such paint-conserving surface:
These craft store wood panels were meant to be painted on, and I’ve used them before without complaint. So unlike the board I used for the Elm Lady painting, these panels give me no problems as far as running paint. I’m not sure if they’re just denser-grained, or if they’re treated.
On this painting, I decided to be playful and draw from different angles and see what came about…
:::Shudder!:::: It was a fun game, but it resulted not in something moderately Cubist as I’d expected, but in something that looked as if I merely had no notion of perspective. Oh well. So much for the middle ground between one style and another; it’s a murky path. I decided to do some adjustments and swing this back to my version of realism, starting with that wonky eye:
And finally, after many more adjustments, I completed my Green Witch:
Acrylic on Wood, 9×7 oval. Completed 11/09/2008

I liked the wonky eye! LOL
Poor, dead wonky eye
You have wonderful work! Just saw you in the Etsy forums and followed your link about packaging here. I love the colors you use.
Cheers!
